The construction of the future community center of the National Network for Children is progressing, and the dream of the “House of Children” is already taking shape.

On April 2, 2026, we held the groundbreaking ceremony for the “House of Children” at 44 Sofroniy Vrachanski St. in Sofia. Just over four months later, the foundations of the future building have been laid.

Work continues with the construction of the next levels of the House, which is expected to open its doors in 2028.

What will the “House of Children” be?

The House of Children will be a community center for early childhood development and a national center for training and advocacy for children’s rights – a space open to children and young people from across Bulgaria, regardless of their background, social status, or health condition.

It will include event and interactive activity rooms, spaces for meetings and training, areas for sports and play, a café, kitchen, and small hostel, as well as office space for the National Network for Children.

The center will host educational programs on children’s rights, financial and health literacy, entrepreneurship, environmental awareness, leadership skills, and active civic participation. Children and young people will not only take part in activities but will also have the opportunity to express their views, develop ideas, and participate in decisions and processes that affect them.

The House will also be a place for parents and families, who will have access to support, information, and a range of social and educational activities.

Training sessions, meetings, and initiatives for professionals and organizations working with children will also take place there. In this way, the House will serve as a home for the National Network for Children community – more than 140 civil society organizations and activists from across the country – and as a meeting place for civil society, institutions, businesses, professionals, children, and families.

The House of Children will also be a social enterprise, where young people leaving foster care or institutional care, as well as those in vulnerable situations, will have the opportunity to gain real work experience and develop skills through employment in various activities at the House. The café, kitchen, catering service, and small hostel will be part of a model that provides young people with opportunities for employment, while the income generated by these activities will contribute to the center’s long-term sustainability.

Brick by brick: everyone can be part of the House

Through the “Brick with a Cause” fundraising initiative, everyone can support the construction of the “House of Children.” The bricks are available at different donation levels – from €50 to €300 – with each one representing a specific contribution to building the House. The initiative is open to individual donors, companies, and organizations.

All donors will have a place on the future “Wall of Hope” in the “House of Children.” Their names will be engraved on the wall so that children, families, and all visitors to the House can see the community that helped make this place possible.
